Orange County SC of the USL Championship will try to capture some of the magic of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in a special jersey created specifically for this year’s tournament.
The club from Irvine, California, unveiled its „Magic of the Cup Kit“ on Monday, May 6, on its website and social media channels, and will debut it on the field on Tuesday, May 7, as OCSC hosts Loudoun United in the Round of 32 of the 2024 US Open Cup, the 109th edition of the tournament.
The jersey is inspired by many garments worn in the 1910s, when the US Open Cup was first contested. Black and orange vertical stripes adorn the front and back of the jersey, with orange sleeves featuring black stripes on the shoulders and orange Hummel angles inside. The sleeve cuffs and V-neck are solid black in color.
A red badge at the center of the chest features a white silhouette of the US Open Cup trophy and the year 1914, the first year the tournament was held. Names and numbers are printed in white on the back, below an „OCSC“ monogram at the back collar. „The Magic of the Cup“ is engraved in cursive on the inside of the collar.

Thriving cup competitions are a sign of a mature soccer nation, and this year we wanted to make a statement about the importance of the Open Cup and cup football to our club and our league, following some negative press surrounding the cup and its participants. That’s why we’ve designed a special jersey featuring the Open Cup trophy that we’ll be wearing during this year’s competition. The design pays homage to some jersey designs worn over 100 years ago when this competition first began. We hope to wear this special jersey many times this year.“

The kickoff between OCSC and Loudoun United will take place at 7:00 PM PT at Championship Stadium in Irvine, California.
