Water habitats and their diverse flora and fauna are at the heart of the Water:Ways campaign that was launched in 2011 by Naturefriends International together with Naturefriends Austria and the Austrian Federal Forests. Over the next few years, the scope of the campaign is to be expanded within the Naturefriends associations. After the first thematic focus which was on mountainous ecosystems, the emphasis of the years 2012/2013 will be on streams, rivers & alluvial forests.

Naurefriends International is working on the development of cross-border hiking-tourism along the Danube.  In partnership with WGD Tourismus GmbH and financially supported by the Austrian Ministry of Economy a report on existing and potential hiking infrastructure in Danube states has been published.

As of October 2012, environmental and CSR officers in municipalities, companies and institutions can get a training on the subject of climate justice: Naturefriends International and KATE Stuttgart launched the project “Lead 4 Climate Justice” to enable participants to incorporate the subject on an institutional level.
