Major League Soccer and Adidas have once again released new jerseys to raise awareness of environmental issues, but this season the jerseys will not be worn in games.
On Tuesday, April 9th, MLS unveiled the new One Planet jerseys as part of their seventh annual Greener Goals Week of Service, aimed at highlighting environmental issues within the soccer community.
The pre-match tops are made from recycled materials and are available in three different colors: green for forests; brown for soil; and light blue for water. A pattern of graffiti flowers and leaves appears in full color on the green shirts and is color-coordinated on the light brown and blue jerseys.
The accents on the sides of the blue and green jerseys are white, as well as sponsor logos and club crests, while those on the light brown jersey are red. All three seem to have navy blue or black Adidas shoulder stripes and collars.
In previous years, teams wore jerseys made from recycled plastic in games, but MLS faced criticism for not having enough contrast between the jersey options.
