Reports suggest that the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League will need larger closets in 2024 as they prepare to add a fourth jersey to their rotation.

According to the Piffles Podcast, which extensively covers the Riders, the team is adding a new uniform in 2024 that will feature a darker „Obsidian“ shade of green and a brighter „Emerald“ green in addition to the usual Rider green. These color tones were added to the Riders‘ style guide in 2022.

The report also mentions that the new uniform will be similar to those shown to focus groups in previous seasons, predominantly obsidian green with emerald green accents and very little white. Piffles Podcast contributor Greg McCulloch created this concept based on reports from the focus groups:

It is reported that the new uniform will also come with a new helmet, primarily in the darker „Obsidian“ green shade. According to the Piffles Podcast, the helmet will feature a new Riders logo, either entirely or partially, which the team trademarked in 2022.

The new alternate will complement the Riders‘ regular home and away jerseys as well as their retro throwbacks.

The Piffles team speculates that the jerseys could debut on Friday, July 19 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Riders recently announced their home game themes for the 2024 season, with this game titled „Green Is The Colour“ in the evening:

Green is indeed the color – and just like the hues you’ll see all over our province, there will be plenty of shades of green in a packed Mosaic Stadium… Especially when Rider Nation welcomes the Winnipeg Blue Bombers!

The Roughriders kick off their regular CFL season 2024 with a visit to Edmonton to take on the Elks on Saturday, June 8. Their home opener will take place eight days later when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
