The Father’s Day is approaching. In the world of Major League Baseball, this means that on Sunday, June 16th, we will see baby blue baseball caps and ribbons on the uniforms of Major League Baseball players, coaches, managers, and umpires.

This marks the eighth season in which MLB teams will be donning the light blue caps in an annual salute to the father figures in our lives. The tradition started back in 2016 and has continued every year until 2024 (with the exception of the shortened 2020 season due to the pandemic). Initially, these caps were paired with jerseys with a similar theme like Mother’s Day, but the league abandoned that after just two seasons. The ribbons we see on the game uniforms on Father’s and Mother’s Day first appeared in 2005.

Just like Mother’s Day, this year each team’s cap design features its primary team color as the crown, brim, and button color (all three in one color, regardless of what a team normally does with these elements). The team logo is accented with powder blue, with most teams designing their entire logo in this light blue color, while some add some white for details, embellishments, or shadows. The underside of the visor and the MLB logo on the back also feature the same baby blue color.

Here is the 2024 MLB Father’s Day cap design for each team:

Teams that normally feature powder blue as an accent color really stand out here, and one wonders if these could be worn as part of their regular team – clubs like Tampa Bay, Toronto, Kansas City, and Miami. I could also imagine the Cardinals and Rangers pairing these Father’s Day caps with their powder blue alternate uniforms… but none of that would happen; it’s just too good.

As is the tradition every Father’s Day, MLB will once again donate 100% of its licensing royalties earned from the sale of Father’s Day caps to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer.

Father’s Day Caps Throughout the Years

Below is a brief journey through the past showcasing the different cap and jersey designs for Father’s Day that we have seen on the field since the program’s inception in 2016. Note that there was no Father’s Day cap during the shortened 2020 season due to the pandemic.
