After several months without a kit supplier, the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (Uruguayan Football Association) has signed a deal with Nike to manufacture jerseys for their national teams.

The AUF announced the deal earlier this week on their website and social media channels. It will come into effect in time for Uruguay to wear Nike jerseys at the Copa América 2024, to be held in the United States in June and July.

The Uruguayan Football Association announces that Nike has been selected to deliver the attire that the Uruguayan team will wear at the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024.

The decision was made by the AUF Executive Committee after an open bidding process took place on March 15.

Uruguay’s national teams were previously outfitted by Puma, but that contract expired at the end of 2023. During the months between contracts, the AUF produced jerseys in-house.

The first in-house set unveiled by the AUF was presented in January, celebrating Uruguay’s gold medal in football at the 1924 Olympic Summer Games in Paris.

Subsequently, the AUF released another set of match jerseys for international games in March. Both were adorned with color-coordinated pinstripes on the front and back.

Some coaches and players of the national team, especially in the youth sector, were still seen in Puma training gear well into 2024.

The Uruguayan men’s national team also secured Olympic gold in 1928 in Amsterdam. They went on to win the first FIFA World Cup in their home country in 1930, as well as the 1950 championship in Brazil. They have won the Copa América 15 times.

The Uruguayan women’s national team has fewer trophies in their cabinet. Their best international finish was a third-place at the 2006 Copa América Femenina.
