Former NBA Point Guard Rajon Rondo was arrested on Sunday afternoon for illegal possession of a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana, according to a report from WDRB-TV.
During a traffic stop in Jackson County, Indiana, the police smelled marijuana in Rondo’s car and conducted a search, said ISP spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles to WDRB. During the search, police found a firearm and drug paraphernalia. The 37-year-old was arrested and taken to a jail in Jackson County, where he posted bail.
Rondo, 37, is not allowed to possess a firearm due to a restraining order against him. In 2022, Rondo had a restraining order filed against him by a woman, which was dismissed after „the parties reached a settlement,“ according to documents obtained by ESPN. The request alleges that Rondo threatened the woman with a firearm and cited Rondo’s history as „unstable and unpredictable,“ and „explosive behavior,“ causing her to fear for her children’s safety.
WDRB was unable to reach Rondo’s attorney for comment.
The four-time All-Star most recently played in the 2021-22 season as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA. The two-time NBA champion also played for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Kings. He led the league in assists per game three times.
Rondo was drafted 21st overall in the 2006 NBA Draft after playing a leading role at Kentucky. He was inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
