The College Summer League, Northwoods League, which has hosted a baseball program for 30 years, introduced a softball program set to debut in 2024 at the end of last year. This week, the league revealed the name and logo for the Mankato Habaneros, the first of four teams to take the field this summer.
While habaneros are typically grown in hotter climates than the Upper Midwest, the team explains, „The Habaneros logo embodies the fiery spirit of the team, with flames engulfing the script and a color scheme reminiscent of the ripening pepper.“
A unique detail of the brand is that the team’s colors will change throughout the season, „reflecting the ripening process of the habanero pepper itself,“ the team says.
The Habaneros will join as-yet-unnamed teams in La Crosse, Wisconsin; Madison, Wisconsin; and Minot, North Dakota.
