Major League Baseball and Nike announced today that they will address some of the issues with the new uniforms introduced for the 2024 season. The decision was based on feedback from players and teams, as well as months of fan and media complaints indicating the need for improvements in several areas.

Starting in the 2025 season, jerseys will feature a larger script on the back, making player names more legible and aligning better with the traditional look of names. Players will also have the option to customize their pants for a better fit and more comfort.

Nike will also address color discrepancies and other discolorations that were most noticeable on the gray road jerseys. The updated gray jerseys could make their first appearance on the field as early as the second half of this season.

The initial introduction of new jerseys in 2024 sparked a wave of criticism from players and fans, particularly regarding the small lettering of player names, fit, perceived transparency of the pants, and overall quality of the material. While it seems many of the issues are being addressed today, there was no mention in the announcement of a return to the embroidered style of sleeve patches or wordmarks.

„Player and team feedback is extremely important to us,“ said Robert D. Manfred, Jr., Commissioner of Baseball, in the press release. „Working with Nike, we have listened to our players and are addressing their concerns.“

Manfred emphasized the league’s commitment to continuous improvement, stating, „We will continue to work with Nike to make adjustments with the goal of delivering a jersey that looks great and helps MLB players perform at their best.“

This seems to be the most realistic rollback of the changes we can expect. It would never lead to a complete elimination of the new style, especially if all the existing products were still around.
