The Double-A Mississippi Braves announced this week that they will be leaving their home of Pearl, Mississippi, since 2005, after the 2024 season. Starting in 2025, the franchise will be relocating to Columbus, Georgia.

The move will likely result in a rebrand, leaving only 11 out of 120 Minor League Baseball teams named after their parent clubs, including the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, Syracuse Mets, and Worcester Red Sox; Double-A Springfield Cardinals; High-A South Bend Cubs; and Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, among others.

The relocated M-Braves, one of 29 clubs owned by the rapidly growing Diamond Baseball Holdings, will mark the first time since 2008 that a team has moved to Columbus, Georgia, bringing back memories of the Class-A Columbus Catfish’s five-season run before making way for the Bowling Green HotRods.
