Even though the tournament is more than a year away, the first National Indigenous Junior Hockey Championships now have a logo.

Hockey Indigenous, the Canadian non-profit organization hosting the tournament, unveiled the logo on Wednesday, April 10th, on their social media channels. The very first NIJHC will take place from June 2nd to 6th, 2025 in Toronto.

The logo was designed by Jeff Nepinak of the Pine Creek First Nation in Manitoba. It features a roundel with the tournament’s name and crossed hockey sticks behind it; the spaces between the bars and the inside of the roundel are filled with the traditional colors of the Medicine Wheel. On the outside of the roundel, three turtles appear while three eagle feathers hang down from the bottom.

At the NIJHC, indigenous players aged 18 to 20 will compete in both male and female divisions. This will also include a cultural festival and symposium.

(The tournament) serves as a platform for indigenous athletes of all skill levels to showcase their talents, make new friendships, and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of the game. With a focus on inclusivity and community, this tournament embodies the spirit of unity, providing young indigenous hockey players a unique opportunity to shine on a national stage while celebrating their heritage.
