Lehigh Valley IronPigs spielen als Cats – SportsLogos.Net News

The Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs have honored dogs with various identities in past seasons, playing selected games as Corgis, IronMutts, IronWeiners, and IronPugs. But for the first time, the team will pay tribute to the finicky, clawed cousins of dogs when they take the field as the Lehigh Valley Cats for a game this season. (And I say that as someone who likes cats.)

Fans of Minor League Baseball are familiar with Hillcats, Fisher Cats, River Cats, ValleyCats, and even Mudcats, but Lehigh Valley will play as regular old kittens, featuring a logo of a tabby house cat wearing glasses, lounging around and plotting where to deposit its next hairball.

„I realized that we had been focusing on dogs for years, and how irresponsible it was not to acknowledge the thousands of cat lovers we have in the Lehigh Valley,“ said Kurt Landes, President and General Manager of the IronPigs, in a statement. „It was a disaster that needed fixing, and this was the perfect solution.“

The team invites cat owners to bring their cats on leashes, harnesses, or in carriers to the „Caturday“ game, where fans will sing „Take Meow’t to the Ballgame.“ Jerseys worn by the IronPigs will be auctioned off, and hats will be part of a raffle benefiting the Lehigh Valley Humane Society. Additionally, the team will invite local cat rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and housing cats to the game.

The Cats will take the field on April 27th.
