The NBA All-Star Game returned to an East-West format this season, where captains selected the teams, but that’s not the only classic touch players would like to see return.

„I like East and West,“ said Kevin Durant, forward for the Phoenix Suns, to reporters after the game on Sunday. „I like playing conference against conference, the traditional way I grew up with. Hopefully, we’ll also be back in our own uniforms.“

However, Durant, a 14-time All-Star and two-time All-Star Game MVP, never had the chance to wear his team’s uniform at the midseason exhibition.

The #2 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft missed the trend by just a few years as players from the East wore their team’s home jerseys and players from the West wore their team’s road jerseys from 1997 to 2002.

Since then, the designs have either referenced the host city and franchise or prominently featured an oversized NBA or team logo on the front of the jerseys, which are typically in bold colors.

However, the designs this season felt more traditional, combining the blue of the Eastern Conference with the red of the Western Conference and featuring some local flair as a nod to the host city of Indianapolis.

If only the teams would play defense as they have in past All-Star games, as this year’s 211-186 East victory was the highest-scoring game in the league’s history and set numerous other records, including most field goals (163) and three-pointers (66) made.

„The East’s shooting was amazing,“ said Durant. „It’s hard to play defense when someone is shooting 30 or 40 feet away. Great shooting performance tonight.“
