Jürgen Klopp, the trainer for Liverpool, announced in a statement to the fans today that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Watch the video to learn more.

Klopp’s main reason for leaving is that he is „running out of energy.“

„I absolutely love everything about this club,“ he said. „I love everything about the city, I love everything about our fans, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But by making this decision, I’m showing you that I’m convinced it’s the right decision. I feel, how should I put it, drained. Of course, I’m fine now, I knew for a while that I would have to announce it at some point, but I’m perfectly okay. I know that I can’t keep doing this job over and over again.“

Klopp has been a trainer since retiring from professional football in 2001. He started in his home country of Germany with Mainz 05 before moving to Borussia Dortmund. He is the longest-serving manager of both of these clubs, with eight and seven years at each, respectively.

He moved to Liverpool in 2015 and has led the team to two UEFA Champions League title matches, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, and a Premier League title, the first in 30 years.

„It was super, super, super important for me to be able to help get this team back on its feet. That’s all I thought about,“ said Klopp. „When it became clear to me pretty early on that this was happening, that it’s a really good team with huge potential and a great age group, great characters and all that, I was able to start thinking about myself again, and that was the result.“

Klopp has also confirmed that he will take a break and not be coaching at all next year. He also stated that he will not be coaching at another club in England.

This season, Liverpool is at the top of the Premier League table, competing for the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the Europa League.

„We are Liverpool, we’ve been through tougher things together,“ Klopp said. „And you’ve been through harder things before me. Let’s turn that into a strength. That would be really cool. Let’s get everything we can out of this season and smile about something else in the future.“
