„Was lieben Sie an Ihrem Partner? Was erregt Sie an seinem oder ihrem Körper?“ fragt Allison.
The lights are dim. A fire burns in the fireplace. Two wine glasses sit half empty on the nightstand. Clothing is in a heap on the floor. You both reach for each other. You both fall onto the bed and…
Nothing. No explosions of passion. No whispered declarations of desires. No turbulent climax. And then you wonder: How can everyone in movies and romance novels have fiery, explosive sex while you and your partner barely spark?
Sexologist Logan Levkoff, author of the e-book How to Get Your Wife to Have Sex with You says, „TV shows and movies give us a very distorted view of what sex should be. Everyone seems to be constantly reaching their peak and having an orgasm with everything they do. If you grow up on this diet, and if your real life doesn’t match up, you think, ‚There’s something wrong with me‘ or ‚There’s something wrong with my partner.'“
Sex in real life can hardly ever match the passion depicted on screen, says sexual therapist Isadora Alman. „People don’t talk about the likelihood of passing gas in a weird position or the love of your life getting bad breath when they hold you in his arms.“
Sex in the real world is not perfect and does not always end with a world-shaking climax – but it doesn’t have to, says Levkoff. „Good sex doesn’t necessarily have to be about an orgasm. It can simply be an emotionally fulfilling experience between partners.“
Even long-term couples can face problems in the bedroom. While we can easily tell our partner which shirt to wear or what we want to cook for dinner together, we tend to be silent when it comes to sex.
So how do you tell your partner what you want without hurting their ego? „I think it really depends on how you phrase the statement,“ says Levkoff. „‚I would love it if we…‘ or ‚Could we try this?‘ You don’t want to make them feel guilty for what they have or haven’t done.“
You can have the conversation at any time and place that’s most comfortable for you. But before you talk, you need to know exactly what bothers you about your sex life. Is it a matter of technique? Personal hygiene? Timing? „Once you know what’s not working for you,“ says Alman, „you can suggest things that can alleviate those circumstances.“
For example, if something about your partner’s odor turns you off, suggest taking a bath together before lovemaking. If you crave more foreplay, ask for slower transitions to sex.
Before you can tell your partner what to do in bed, you need to know what you like. „I think especially women need to explore their own bodies,“ says Sussman. „You have to masturbate. Get a vibrator. Get some books. Teach yourself how to orgasm.“
Sometimes the problem is physical, such as premature ejaculation. Or it could be that the stress of your job spills over into the bedroom and interferes with your sex life. In such cases, seeking a sex therapist can be helpful. „We figure out why both of you are not getting along,“ says Alman. „And then we try to fix that.“
If you’re still unsatisfied, is it ever okay to fake it in bed? „If you fake it, you’re not doing yourself any favors because you’re not learning what really turns you on,“ says Sussman. „I think eventually it will take its toll. Your partner will notice that you don’t have a connection.“
Can sex ever be bad enough to consider ending a relationship? Possibly. „Maybe you really love someone and the sex will never be better than okay. You have to decide if you can live with that,“ says Alman.
Whenever you consider a breakup or divorce, you must weigh every element of the relationship and not just the sex. „You can’t have everything in life,“ says Sussman. „If you have a wonderful relationship, love each other, and have children, but the sex isn’t great, you might be able to live with that.“
Sussman says that every couple has the potential for good sex if they are willing to put in a little effort. „If you are two emotionally and physically healthy individuals, you should be able to work with what you have. Not everyone has to swing from the chandelier,“ says Sussman. „You can get better. But you have to practice and be open to discussing it and getting help if you need it.“
Was (fast) immer funktioniert:
Was scheitert:

Janice, 41, was unsatisfied with her husband Pat, 42. After several years of struggling to maintain an erection, Janice started to blame herself and lost confidence in her sexual appeal. She began to doubt the value of her marriage and decided to seek counseling from a sexual therapist.
Following her initial sessions with certified sexologist and sex educator Megan Andelloux, based in Rhode Island, Janice found the courage to ask Pat to see a doctor to rule out any underlying health issues. It turned out he had weight problems affecting blood flow, leading to erectile dysfunction. On Andelloux’s recommendation, the couple began to explore intimacy beyond just relying on erections, while Pat worked on losing weight and improving his overall health. For Janice and Pat, it was a fresh start. For Andelloux, it was just another day at the office.
Many couples start addressing relationship issues in traditional therapy settings with marriage counselors or therapists, says Andelloux. Sometimes, these professionals may lack expertise in issues related to sexuality, making a referral to a sexual therapist necessary.
While trained therapists, such as those with a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), receive several hours of sexual training as part of their overall education, accredited sexual therapists build upon existing knowledge in social work, medicine, psychology, etc., or specific graduate work in sexuality.
The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, the central governing and accreditation body in this field, requires 90 hours of college-level coursework plus supervised clinical hours.
What happens in the offices of certified sexual educators, counselors, and therapists revolves around conversations, much like any other form of therapy and counseling. „We are not allowed to touch our clients and wouldn’t consider it,“ says Andelloux. „Sex does not take place in the practice of a sexual therapist.“
Her office is a place where clients struggling with any kind of sexual issues can feel completely safe and open in discussing and working through those issues. „It could be two people with differing desires,“ she says. „We see everything from couples dealing with aging and changes in sexual function, to women struggling with rape trauma in their sexual lives, to men worrying about the content of their fantasies and feeling ashamed. The range is vast.“
As a sexual educator, Andelloux’s work focuses on extensive conversations about sex and sexuality, including a common technique in traditional therapist practices: homework. For couples experiencing intimacy issues (a common problem), Andelloux may prescribe something called specific touch. „I might suggest touching your partner for ten minutes daily without it leading to sex,“ she says.
For Janice and Pat, the homework continues. „They are still together,“ says Andelloux. „He has lost weight and gained confidence, and they are working on both their sex life and their marriage.“
Clutching onto past romantic attachments breeds mistrust and can sabotage an otherwise promising relationship. Are you wondering if your sweetheart’s heart still lingers in the hands of a former love? There’s no surefire way to know without having a conversation with your partner about your concerns. But how do you know when it’s time to broach this subject? Here are 10 signs that it might be time to address it.
We all compare our current romance with past ones, and an occasional reference to an old relationship is nothing to worry about. But,“ says marriage and family therapist Joan Sherman, „if it’s happening around the clock, it’s a problem. It will prevent both of you from enjoying the new relationship.“
Sherman says that if you’re hearing every detail and story about the past relationship, it’s likely a sign that your partner has not moved on.
Keeping silent about a former lover can indicate a lack of closure. Guilt from holding onto a secret torch often leads a person to avoid talking about their ex. If you notice your partner is reluctant to bring up the ex, or if it becomes a sore point, it’s time to inquire about the reason, says Sherman.
Whether it’s through Facebook, a dating profile, or googling the ex’s name, relationship expert and author John Gray says that keeping a close online eye on an ex can be a warning sign. Gray says, „If they spend too much time online following a former partner, it can make you feel neglected. Are you getting what you need from this person, especially if they spend two hours on Facebook after dinner?“ If not, Gray says it’s time to speak up.
Frequent emails, phone calls, or online messages with a former love can harm a current relationship. But, as Carolyn Hax, advice columnist for the Washington Post, says, it’s a matter of context.
If you’re exchanging emails weekly and your partner is still fully invested in your current relationship, then there’s nothing to worry about. But if it’s weekly emails and your partner is not committed, then you have valid concerns, says Hax. Your partner may not have cut the cord.
In a new relationship, it’s all about trust, says Sherman. If you’re uncomfortable with your current partner’s contact with an ex, speak up. Your partner and their ex should be willing to take a break from each other while you both focus on what you have together. It doesn’t have to be a permanent break, but it’s a respectful thing to do.
Speaking of bad timing, during orgasm, the mind is completely uninhibited, making it easier to slip out another person’s name, says Gray. Such a slip-up usually indicates unresolved feelings for an ex.
Looking at mementos from a relationship is part of the healing process. But, says Sherman, it’s time to let go of the memories once the feelings have been resolved. Your partner doesn’t have to toss their favorite sweatshirt and all the love letters onto the curb. However, they should be out of everyday reach.
As for displayed photos, having a group picture with a former partner on the wall is one thing. Erecting a shrine to that person or decorating the bedroom with a display of the glorious past days is another. You can gently and tactfully suggest keeping those pretty frames and filling them with new memories of you both.
Watch out for a partner who toggles affections on and off. Gray says it could be a sign of inner turmoil. Your partner may be cold and withdrawing when feeling guilty for not showing the same kind of love in the previous relationship. Then, the passion may resurface when your partner feels guilty for pulling away from you.
One symptom of not being ready to move on is the talk of „I love you, but I’m not in love with you.“ Or, „I like you, but I still want to see other people.“ If a long-term relationship isn’t progressing to the next level, the obstacle could be another person from the past.
„If someone is wondering, ‚Should I go back? Why didn’t it work?,‘ it can be an obstacle to progress,“ says Gray.
Issues with maintaining an erection or achieving an orgasm can be a symptom of emotional stagnation, says Gray. Guilt can trigger feelings of unworthiness and prevent someone from fully committing to a new partner.“
However, Gray emphasizes that many other factors can affect performance in the bedroom, such as depression, high estrogen levels, excess belly fat, and substance abuse.
„Sometimes clients tell me, ‚I feel like something is off,'“ says Sherman. That’s a good barometer, she says. If something just doesn’t feel right, it’s probably worth addressing openly. It could lead to a discovery about your partner’s feelings for someone else.
Also, if you feel the need to snoop around, there’s a good chance your relationship has trust issues, says Sherman. Try to get to the bottom of the mistrust and hold off on detective work.
As much distress and headache it may cause, couples can survive a partner being stuck in a past failed relationship. But the longer you wait to address it, the more likely it is that you’ll become resentful about the situation, says Sherman.
Start the conversation with your hung-up sweetheart with a „collaborative“ approach, rather than pushing the other person away with angry words. Use sentences like „I need your help,“ „I need your reassurance,“ and „I love you and want to work on this with you“ to get the ball rolling, says Sherman.
If you’re struggling to address the issue but truly believe it’s worth working on, it may be time to seek help from a couples therapist.
If you want to maintain a healthy relationship with the love of your life, be wary of jumping on the jealousy bandwagon prematurely and making quick accusations. Without a bigger context, there’s no reason to chase down your partner with a „How dare you?“ attitude at every tiny suspicion.
„Extreme jealousy is worse than harboring persistent feelings for someone else,“ says Hax. „Often, an outburst is just a feeling. But constantly on the lookout for bad things – that tends to be a deeper trust issue.“
Puma joins the ranks of Nike and Adidas in unveiling a series of new national team jerseys after the aforementioned brands showcased their collections earlier in March. Puma revealed five new jerseys on Friday, March 28, with four out of the five teams having qualified for Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. Each jersey features „custom designs that celebrate the rich heritage of each nation,“ as stated in the press release.
While the authentic jerseys are made with Puma’s Ultraweave technology, the company emphasized the use of RE:FIBRE recycling technology in the replica versions.
The RE:FIBRE process focuses on textile waste as the primary source for producing new textiles. The recycled material can be repeatedly recycled without any loss of quality—making RE:FIBRE a long-term solution for recycling polyester textile waste.
Through the RE:FIBRE program, Puma aims to address the challenge of textile waste with a sustainable recycling solution. The technology also aims to diversify the main source of recycled polyester in garments in the fashion industry, reducing reliance on transparent plastic bottles.
The RE:FIBRE process utilizes any polyester material—ranging from factory remnants to faulty goods to used clothing—allowing new garments to be recycled from textiles of any color into any desired color.

The white away jersey is inspired by the legendary Jungfraujoch railway station in the Swiss Alps, capturing the harmonious fusion of natural beauty and technical excellence that defines Switzerland.
Today’s women are told that we have it all – careers, families, children, social involvement, and relationships. But all too often, when we have it all, we have neither the time nor the energy for ourselves.
Recent studies have shown that women today are less happy than they have been in the past 40 years. There are many theories as to why this might be the case, but lack of leisure time could be a major reason.
„Women are under tremendous stress and pressure: as parents, daughters, mothers, wives, or working professionals. All these roles combined lead to many of us neglecting to take care of ourselves – the very thing that sustains us and gives us vitality,“ says Randy Kamen Gredinger, a psychologist and life coach specializing in women’s issues from Wayland, MA.
Whether you are taking care of toddlers, anxiously waiting for your teenager to come home, caring for your aging parents – or all of the above – every woman needs a break for sanity’s sake every now and then. That means taking time each day to do something for yourself.
But how can you make it happen?
First, make yourself aware of how important it is.
„I have been talking to women for years about this, and it seems hard for us to feel like we deserve to be put on our own priority list,“ says Amy Tiemann, author of Mojo Mom: Nurturing Yourself While Raising a Family and founder of Mojomom.com.
„If you can’t do it because you feel you deserve it, think of it this way: you are a first responder. An emergency can happen at any time, and you should be as rested and recharged as you would like,“ Tiemann says. „I want YOU to be the emergency room doctor or paramedic,“ Tiemann says. „And also, you’ll be a better parent and partner if you take care of yourself. It’s more fun to be around you, and you can be more present for your family.“
So, you’re convinced. It is time to take time for yourself. When can you fit it in? Don’t wait for time to magically appear. It won’t.
Make your leisure time as important as a visit to the pediatrician, the conference call, or your meeting with the contractor. Treat it like any other appointment.
„You have to schedule recharging time,“ says Margaret Moore, Co-Director of the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. „We are great at project management in our professional lives, but not as good in our personal lives. Treat it like any project: I want to recharge my batteries so I don’t feel as exhausted and drained.“
Try to find at least half an hour to an hour for yourself every day. It doesn’t have to be all at once. And before you decide what to do with the time you’ve set aside in your schedule, commit to not wasting it.
„We are a multitasking society. When we are talking to a friend, we are thinking about the other things we need to do,“ says Allison Cohen, a marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles. „Instead, you need to be present in the moment. Whatever you do for yourself, don’t think about your grocery list or the PowerPoint presentation. There is plenty of time in our day that we could enjoy, but we lose it because we focus on what we need to do next.“
You don’t need a lot of time. Here are ideas on how to make the most of even just 5 minutes of „me“ time:
Add your own favorites to these lists. Whatever you do with your „me“ time, make it relaxing and rejuvenating.
„If it’s not working for you, try something else,“ Moore says. „‚Shoulds‘ are the enemy of relaxation. Don’t think about what you should be doing, think about what makes you successful.“
