There seems to be an answer to the question „Where in the world is Gio Reyna?“ as reports this morning suggest he is in England to finalize a loan deal with Nottingham Forest. You know it’s official when Fab says „Here we go!“ via Twitter.
The only thing that will interest USMNT fans is for Reyna to finally get regular playing time without getting injured. The second part remains to be seen once he’s out there. The first part? Hardly a guarantee, but it looks promising.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has generally used Forest in a 4-2-3-1 system, and while Morgan Gibbs-White has staked his claim in this formation, the two wide attacking positions have been in flux. There is a chance for Reyna to prove himself if he can deliver. However, concerns remain over the involvement of Santo and Reyna’s agent Jorge Mendes.
Joining a team already in relegation battle poses additional challenges for Reyna, as Forest is facing a tough lineup of upcoming opponents. His loan deal with no buy option and a contract extension with Dortmund until 2026 reflect the risks involved, but Reyna needs to perform on the field to justify the noise around him.
