New Mexico State forward Robert Carpenter received a flagrant foul 2 and was subsequently ejected from the field after striking Liberty forward Shiloh Robinson in the face in the first quarter of the Aggies‘ 79-73 home-win overtime.
The two fought in the paint. As the action moved the other way, Robinson turned and collided with Carpenter, who was guarding him. Carpenter then threw the haymaker, sending Robinson to the floor. Flames‘ forward did not return to the game after that.
Carpenter, who averages 10.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, will also sit out New Mexico’s next game, suspended or not.
„My rule is he’s not going to play on Saturday,“ he said.
He also added that Carpenter is „a really good kid, there’s just no room for that in the game.“
Carpenter, a 6-foot-7 junior, transferred from Mississippi Valley State to NMSU.
The Aggies are 10-12, good for third place in CUSA.
