San Diego Padres will honor team chairman Peter Seidler, who passed away at the age of 63 last November, by wearing a heart-shaped patch on the front of their uniforms during the 2024 season.

The patch features Seidler’s initials, PS, in brown in the Padres‘ font inside a yellow heart. It will be worn on the upper left corner of each player’s jersey over their heart.

“It was his passion to own the Padres and provide the San Diego fans with a team they could always be proud of,” said Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred at the time of his passing. “Peter ensured the Padres were part of community solutions in San Diego, especially regarding the homeless community.”

San Diego previously wore a memorial patch for former owner Ray Kroc; the „RAK“ patch was worn on the Padres‘ jersey sleeve for three seasons after his passing in 1984. Over the years, the Padres have honored several former staff, coaches, and players with jersey patches, including a Home Plate No. 19 patch for Tony Gwynn and a star with the initials „JC“ for broadcaster Jerry Coleman in 2014, as well as a black circle with the number 48 on it for bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds in 2012.
