The Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL are once again changing their colors this weekend for a good cause.

The Steelheads are hosting their 17th annual Pink in the Rink Weekend with games against the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday, January 12, and Saturday, January 13. Since its first edition in 2005/06, the Pink in the Rink Weekend has raised over $278,000 for cancer research and treatment in Idaho.

This year’s Pink in the Rink Weekend jerseys are subtly designed in the featured color, but still make an impact. Designed by Karl Winks, who has previously designed several special edition jerseys for the Steelheads, the jerseys are mostly black, but the logo on the front has pink and white outlines, giving it a neon sign effect.

The jerseys have pink accents on the collar and shoulder yoke, as well as white and pink stripes on the sleeves. White and pink stripes also form mountains on the sides of the jersey, an element borrowed from the team’s gray alternate jersey.

The numbers on the jersey are black with pink and white outlines. The video posted by the Steelheads on social media appears to show names on the back in solid white.

Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off on Handbid starting Friday afternoon; The auction ends on Sunday, January 14. Proceeds will benefit St. Luke’s Breast Care Services, which offers screening and diagnostic mammography, genetic counseling, comprehensive breast cancer treatment, and survivor support to people across Idaho.

The Steelheads have been auctioning jerseys for the benefit of St. Luke’s since their first season in Boise in 1997/98. These auctions have raised over $628,000.
