The ECHL’s Florida Everblades will be channeling some turtle power as they gear up for their very first Hispanic Heritage Night this weekend.

The team, affiliated with the NHL’s Florida Panthers and based in the Cape Coral-Fort Myers metropolitan area, will be hitting the ice on Saturday, January 13, in special purple jerseys with yellow „Las Tortugas“ (The Turtles) script logo on the front.

The purple base color symbolizes power and kingship, acknowledging the championship pedigree of the Everblades. The individual shoulder patch has been designed incorporating Hispanic elements, combining a classic hockey stick image with turtle images. The blue hem stripe represents the flowing waters of Florida, an integral part of the local ecosystem. Finally, the body features comma-shaped marks resembling the tracks of a loggerhead turtle on land, including Hispanic patterns.

Based on graphics shared on social media and the ongoing auction of game-worn jerseys, the back of the jerseys will feature the player’s name in blue on a darker purple nameplate. The numbers are yellow with purple and blue outlines.

The nickname „Tortugas“ comes somewhat unexpected from the Everblades as their primary logo (see below) is an alligator shaped as a skate. According to Google Translate, the Spanish word for „alligator“ is „caimán.“

Game-worn, signed „Las Tortugas“ jerseys are being auctioned off via Dash in three groups; bidding closes between Friday evening and Sunday evening. Proceeds will benefit the Immokalee Foundation.

„We are grateful and deeply honored to be recognized during the Everblades game’s Hispanic Heritage Night at Hertz Arena,“ said Noemi Y. Perez, President and CEO of the Immokalee Foundation, in a press release. „The funds raised through the support and generosity of the Everblades and their fans will continue our life-changing programs for Immokalee’s youth year-round, including our innovative Career Pathways Program. This comprehensive educational approach prepares students for in-demand, high-paying jobs in Southwest Florida.“

The puck drop for the Everblades‘ Hispanic Heritage Night game against the Savannah Ghost Pirates will be at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida.
