Der Veruntreuer der Jaguars ging mit seinen 22 Millionen Dollar voll auf Florida Man ein

The man from Florida turned into Amit Patel – the Jaguars employee who embezzled $22 million from the team – was quite bold. One would expect a lot of ill-gotten money to be spent on things related to the cast of The Italian Job, but this is the land of Parrot Heads, so the preferred way to enjoy oneself is through sports betting and then squander the rest on bizarre online purchases.

In a court filing submitted on Thursday, the federal prosecutors detailed Patel’s expenditures, and it read like a remake of Blank Check. There were $600,000 on Apple products, $47,113 on a Tiger Woods putter, $40,000 at Amazon and Best Buy, $140,412 on eBay, and, my personal favorite, $9,477 at the Jaguars‘ team shop and Stadium Club.

Dude, you worked for the organization. I’m sure someone could have enticed you with cheap and/or free swag. And how do you spend $2,200 on a used Trevor Lawrence jersey? Just go after a game to the locker room and grab a few jerseys from the laundry, or ask. I’m sure there are plenty of latent felons out there.

Quick note to the Jaguars: If your finance manager is dropping thousands of dollars at the team shop like it’s a shopping spree or showing up at the stadium club dressed in merchandise, maybe look into your books. But who knows, maybe they thought Patel was paying off his Tesla I drive for Uber.

Patel’s attorney, Alex King, who retained $275,000 of the excess funds, said his client was a gambling addict, and „99 percent of the embezzled funds“ were used to cover gambling losses. King cited gambling addiction as the reason for Patel’s misconduct, as if an alcoholic who crashes into a group of pedestrians should be excused because substance abuse is a disease.

To be honest, this comes closest to a victimless crime. Jaguar owner Shahid Khan owns AEW and an EPL club, so his coffers are likely not running dry. Plus, Nick Foles got away with $88 million not long ago. Sure, it was a legally-binding four-year contract, but it was still a heist.

Considering the karma of the NFL getting in bed with sports betting, and then some crazy team employee squeezes $22 million out of a franchise, it’s a real comedy. Patel incurred $77,000 at the Ponte Vedra Beach Inn & Club, with $25,581 for an initiation fee and another $5,508 for massages and cucumber water.

The first thing I’d do with $22 million is buy real estate as far away from Florida as possible. And the last thing I’d do, aside from squandering my money on misguided parodies, is buy memorabilia. What purpose does a Tiger Woods putter serve? „Hey, everyone, come to my house and check out my putter.“

Amit, darling, you must not be afraid to dream bigger. But of course, this is Florida, and once you’re within state lines, anything is possible. . . apparently funded with stolen money.
