The former LSU wide receiver and current New England Patriots player, Kayshon Boutte, was arrested on Thursday and is accused of betting on sports as a minor under a pseudonym, according to the Louisiana State Police.

According to the police, Boutte faces charges of computer fraud and illegal gambling for individuals under the age of 21.

The wideout allegedly placed over 8,900 bets between April 6, 2022, and May 7, 2023. At least 17 of those bets were on NCAA football games, and at least six involved LSU games, the police stated. Boutte played for the Tigers from 2020-22.

„In July 2023, LSU became aware of allegations related to the inappropriate conduct of a former student-athlete involving sports gambling while enrolled at the university,“ LSU said in a statement. „Since then, we have cooperated fully with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are appreciative of actions that uncover and prevent misconduct related to sports gambling.“

„The New England Patriots are aware that Kayshon Boutte has been cooperating with the Louisiana State Police in the investigation of charges related to gambling by minors while he was a student at Louisiana State University,“ a team spokesman said, according to the Boston Herald. „We do not anticipate making further comments at this time.“

Sports betting was legalized in Louisiana in 2021 for individuals over the age of 21. Anyone found guilty of betting as a minor can be fined up to $500 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both, according to Justia.

During his college tenure, Boutte caught 131 passes for 1,782 yards. In 2021, he was suspended for one game for receiving money in exchange for an autograph before NIL took effect.

He was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2023 draft. In three games for the Patriots, Boutte had two receptions for 19 yards.
