Last week was tough for Washington fans, as they lost the College Football Playoff National Championship to Michigan and their head coach to Alabama. To make matters worse, a store in Tacoma recently displayed the logo that the Huskies would have used if they had won the title.
The logo prominently features the iconic „jaw“ of Husky Stadium above a block „W“ and the year. Below are the wordmarks of the national championship and the team that match the Washington zone design, as well as the Huskies‘ helmet and sleeve stripes emanating from a purple-gold football.
It’s not uncommon for championship logos of a losing team to leak out, whether it’s on a t-shirt or on our website, but it’s rare for a phantom logo to make it to the floor, whether it’s on display or on merchandise items. Usually, the boxes arrive at the retailer with a sign that says, „Do not open unless (insert team here) wins.“
Meanwhile, the Wolverines‘ championship logo, designed by the Port Design Company and released shortly after Michigan’s title win, features the façade of NRG Stadium and a block „M“ at the top, as well as their iconic winged helmet design and a maize and blue football below.
