The Canadian Premier League club Atlético Ottawa is ready to give back to its community with its new primary jersey for 2024.

Atlético gave season ticket holders a first look at the new „Community First Kit“ at an event on Sunday before officially unveiling it on their website and social media on Monday. For every jersey sold, the club sponsor Maple Lodge Farms will donate a box of frozen chicken to community food center partners, including the Caldwell Family Centre. This would be enough to feed 30 individuals or six families with a meal.

„We are incredibly proud to reveal our 2024 primary jersey, not only as a symbol of our club’s identity on the field but as a true testament to Atlético’s continued support in the community,“ said Fernando López, CEO of Atlético, on the club’s website. „Through our partnership with Canadian Premier League sponsors, Maple Lodge Farms and the Caldwell Family Centre, each jersey sold directly contributes to fighting hunger in Ottawa.“

The jersey, manufactured by Macron, retains the red and white striped motif shared by Atlético Ottawa with parent club Atlético de Madrid. However, the stripes are thinner than in previous years, and each red stripe features two shades of red and a pattern of diagonal lines.

Two of the stripes on the left side of the shirt feature the text „FOR OTTAWA“ and „POUR OTTAWA“ below, „symbolizing our ongoing passion and commitment to the community.“

The jersey’s sleeve cuffs are navy blue, as is the polo collar, which also features a red placket and navy blue buttons. The back of the shirt is solid red, with a navy blue bar at the top and navy blue side panels tapering from the hem upwards.

According to Atlético Ottawa, one in seven households in Ottawa is affected by food insecurity, equating to 150,000 people in a city with just over a million residents (as of 2021).

„I am so proud to be part of a partnership addressing the food insecurity crisis in Ottawa,“ said Eugene Williams, Executive Director of the Caldwell Family Centre, in a press release. „We are thrilled to be part of this initiative with Maple Lodge Farms, as we can help hundreds, if not thousands, of families currently experiencing food insecurity in Ottawa.

„When I come to TD Place this season and see the players and fans wearing this jersey, I feel immense gratitude for the support of a community-oriented club like Atlético Ottawa, which is not just about tackling food insecurity. They are taking action against it.“

Atlético is the second CanPL club to unveil jerseys for the upcoming 2024 season. Based in Calgary, Cavalry FC has released its new primary and secondary jerseys in early February ahead of the Concacaf Champions Cup match against MLS club Orlando City.

Atlético’s regular CanPL season for 2024 kicks off on Saturday, April 13, when they host York United at TD Place.
