The story will have to wait.
Caitlin Clark fell eight points short of Kelsey Plum’s record as her 2nd place Iowa Hawkeyes were defeated by Nebraska 82-79.
Clark scored 31 points, but the Cornhuskers held her scoreless in the fourth quarter as they came back from a 14-point deficit.
„We didn’t shut her down,“ said Nebraska head coach Amy Williams. „But we’ll do it if we get the win.“
30 seconds before the end, Jaz Shelley made a 3-point shot, giving Nebraska their first lead of the game. She finished with 23 points and mocked Clark’s celebration.
Clark now has 3,520 career points and is likely to become the new record holder on Thursday evening when Iowa plays against Michigan.
„I think it’s just about getting better and coming back home, playing in front of our fans and performing the way we know we can perform. I think that’s very important for this team,“ said Clark. „Of course, it’ll be something special, but I think the biggest focus right now is just finding ways to grow and get better.“
The Hawkeyes fell to 22-3 and are behind No. 5 Ohio State in the Big Ten standings. Clark leads the nation with 32.2 points per game.
