The Boston College men’s hockey team is gearing up for their biggest weekend of the year against their rivals from across the city, and they’re doing it in style with new alternate jerseys.
The second-ranked Eagles unveiled their new alternate jerseys on Thursday, January 26th, on their social media accounts and will wear them on Friday, January 27th, in the first half of a home series against Boston University – who happens to be ranked number one in the country – in a rivalry known as „The Battle of Comm Ave.“
The jerseys, made by New Balance, are mostly gold with a flowing chestnut eagle logo on the front. The eagle is done in a retro style – a stark contrast to the school’s current primary logo – which makes sense given the unveiling video’s social media caption: „A tribute to our history.“
The jersey collar is solid chestnut with white laces. White and chestnut stripes run around the waist and sleeves, tapering down the arms.
On the back of the jersey, there are five chestnut stars at the rear collar. The numbers on the back and sleeves are in chestnut block lettering with white outlines, as are the names on the back.
BC’s social media-posted video shows the jerseys paired with chestnut helmets, pants, and gloves. The socks are gold on top and chestnut underneath, with chestnut and white stripes in the middle.
The BC vs. BU rivalry goes by many different names, including „Green Line Rivalry,“ „B-Line Rivalry,“ and „Battle of Boston.“ „The Battle of Comm Ave“ refers to Commonwealth Avenue, the street that connects the two campuses.
The two teams have been facing off at least twice a year since 1949. BU currently leads the series with 139 wins, 131 losses, and 21 ties.
BC will host BU at the Kelley Rink in the first half of the home series on Friday at 7:00 PM. They will meet again on Saturday at 7:00 PM ET at BU’s Agganis Arena.
