The Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be temporarily renamed to Grumble Pugs for one evening. The temporary identity is best explained by the fact that „Grumble Pugs“ is a sort of anagram for „Binghamton Rumble Ponies“ if you squint hard enough.
The nickname was revealed on social media with a news-style video in which a pug rearranges the letters of the team’s name and explains that a group of pugs is known as a grumble. The logo features three pugs (technically a grumble!) holding a bat in their mouths.
This is not the first time pugs, a crossbreed of real dogs and naked mole rats, have appeared on a Minor League baseball field. In 2019, the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs attributed a typo by their general manager Kurt Landes for their temporary IronPugs identity.
The Grumble Pugs will take to the field on August 17th.
