As Mardi Gras approaches, the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, have announced that in 2024, they will play four games as the Biloxi King Cakes.
„We’re very excited to unveil our alternate identity as the King Cakes,“ said Hunter Reed, Shuckers‘ General Manager. „Mardi Gras is such an exciting celebration that is enjoyed all along the coast, and we can’t wait to bring it to life on the field in 2024.“
King Cakes are a staple of Mardi Gras celebrations, specifically associated with the Christian holiday of Epiphany or Three Kings‘ Day, in remembrance of the three kings who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. The cake’s iconic three colors represent the three kings. Biloxi is widely known as the birthplace of Mardi Gras celebrations in Mississippi – the city was home to the state’s first Mardi Gras celebration in 1908.
The King Cakes identity was created by Brandiose, the same company responsible for Shuckers‘ main branding. At the center of the logo set is a King Cake, with secondary marks featuring various carnival-themed accessories. One unique feature is that players will be required to keep their jerseys on to receive Mardi Gras beads – the jersey will feature beads as stripes.
„We delved deep into Gulf Coast culture to create a visual celebration that reflects the festive soul of the community,“ said Jason Klein, Partner at Brandiose. „It’s a blend of tradition and fun, mirroring the lively streets of Biloxi during Mardi Gras.“
The four dates are scheduled for Saturday, May 11, Saturday, June 15, Sunday, June 30, and Tuesday, August 13.
