The Double-A Akron RubberDucks have introduced an alternative food-based identity earlier this month, and now they have added another one. Just a few weeks after unveiling the Barberton Fried Chicken and Hot Rice, the RubberDucks are presenting us with the Akron White French.
The nickname is a tribute to a creamy, garlic-infused version of French salad dressing that Akron claims as its own. The exact origin of the dressing is unknown, it could be from the family-owned restaurant Papa Joe’s or the former restaurant Stouffer’s in the Summit Mall, but Akronites agree that this dressing is not often found outside of Northeast Ohio.
The logo features a white onion that has been anthropomorphized to look like the baguette-wielding headwaiter of a French restaurant – complete with a red beret, thin mustache, and disdainful eyebrows.
The White French will take the field on July 19th.
