Naturefriends International has been looking for the most fascinating photos on the topic of “Sustainable Tourism”.
Those who travel can consider themselves fortunate. Those who travel fair share their fortune with the people living in the country they travel to. Sustainable tourism and sustainable travel are characterised by being fair towards the environment and the hosts, providing the population with economic opportunities, taking into account cultural identities and contributing to the protection of the environment.
Major expansion of Europe's protected natural areas
Natura 2000 network expanded by about 18.000 km2
Natura 2000, the EU's network of protected areas, has undergone a significant expansion. Nearly 18.800 square kilometres have been added, including a major addition of marine areas covering 17.000 square kilometres. They provide a vital refuge for many of Europe's rarest and most endangered species.
NFI: Report on hiking-tourism along the Danube and DanubeHIKE kick-off
Naurefriends International is working on the development of cross-border hiking-tourism along the Danube. In partnership with WGD Tourismus GmbH and financially supported by the Austrian Ministry of Economy a report on existing and potential hiking infrastructure in Danube states has been published.
