Together for a cross-border cooperation!
In the Gömör-Torna Karst area, Naturefriends International (NFI) together with Naturefriends Hungary (MTSZ) and Naturefriends Slovakia (KST) have been active and dedicated to the development of bordercrossing sustainable tourism initiatives in the region over the last two years.

As it was in former Landscapes of the Year, Naturefriends International as well developed the “Tour d’horizon” – a model tour for sustainable and border-crossing tourism - to the Landscape of the Year 2010/11 Slovak Karst – Aggtelek Karst. A exploration journey, which was organised in the end of June 2011, focused on tour guides, group guides and hiking guides of the Naturefriends, who now organize further journeys to the Karst region.

Afterthought on the Sustainability Conference Tourism – Youth – Future
As part of the event closing the 20110/11 Landscape-of-the-Year Slovak Karst – Aggtelek Karst project, a sustainability conference entitled “Tourism – Youth – Future: Sustainable Development in the Gömör-Torna Region” was mounted at the town hall in Roznava (SK), on 9 September 2011, which ended with the adoption of a joint declaration on sustainable tourism development in the region.

Gömör-Torna ist der fast in Vergessenheit geratene historische Name einer etwa 600 km2 großen Karstregion, Teil der Ausläufer der Kalkstein-Karpaten, im Grenzgebiet Nordungarns und der Südslowakei, die durch ihre abwechslungsreiche Landschaft aus bewaldeten Karsthügeln, Tälern, Wiesen und Feldern mit einer vielfältigen Flora und Fauna beeindruckt.

Experiencing nature, information, getting to know the region’s culture, people and stakeholders – these are the core elements of a „Tour d’horizon“, which has established to a Naturefriends’ brand for cross-border tourism.
