20 years ago: Landscape of the year “Oder Delta“ – what is left?

In 1993 and 1994, the Oder Delta in the border region of Germany and Poland was proclaimed “Landscape of the Year” by Naturefriends International (NFI). On 17 May 2014, 20 years after the official end of the NFI project, leading members of the project group organised an anniversary meeting.

„LoY Network“ and „100 Years of Friends-of-Nature Houses“ at the Reisepavillon Hanover

From 2. – 4. February, the “Landscapes of the Year Network” and Austrian, Dutch and German Friends-of-Nature houses presented  themselves with a joint trade fair presence at the “Reisepavillon – International Fair for Alternative Travel” in Hanover.

The butterfly is the perfect hallmark for the Landscape of the Year

Since 1989, International Friends of Nature has designated eleven Landscapes of the Year, all of which have certain things in common. Irrespective of their diverse topographies, which range from high and low mountain ranges, via river landscapes, lakes and estuaries to wooded areas and vast planes, all of them are border-crossing, most of the time structurally weak regions banking on gentle tourism.
