Commission welcomes the Council's green light for the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

The ministers of the 27 EU Member States, have today in Luxembourg, endorsed the EU Strategy for the Danube Region adopted by the European Commission last December. Preparations for implementation of the Strategy are already underway.

The European Commission has presented its proposal for an EU Strategy for the Danube Region and its 115 million inhabitants. This initiative seeks to develop the huge economic potential and improve environmental conditions of the region.
The European Commission published a Communication on tourism titled "Europe, the world's No 1 tourist destination – a new political framework for tourism in Europe". The Communication proposes an ambitious set of actions in the field of tourism for the coming years.
The EU has set itself the target to bring a halt to the loss of biodiversity until 2010, but failed on every angle to achieve that target.
Now the European Commission makes a new effort and currently works on a concept for the post-2010 period.
