The last resolutions for the budget of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) from 2014 to 2020 did not bring the improvements NFI hoped for. Although the worst fears about the vote in the EU Parliament did not come true, the necessary objectives were not met either.

Together with 270 other civil society organisations from all over Europe, NFI signed an open letter expressing deep concerns on the proposal for reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by the European Parliament’s Agriculture and Rural Development Committee (AGRI Committee).

On 1 April 2012, the first cross-border instrument to foster direct democracy within the EU was introduced – the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), a voice for interests and concerns of EU citizens. It provides the opportunity to actively participate in political decisions of the EU. Similar to referenda or popular initiatives, a number of statements of support has to be collected in order for the European Commission to deal with the topic of the ECI.

30 km/h (20 mph) limits are an inexpensive and popular way to improve safety, cut pollution and encourage smarter travel choices. They lead to improved traffic flow and less congestion. People can move without fear.
